Original Sequential Art: Captain America (Volume #9 | Issue #4 | Pages #10 and #11) by Leinil Francis Yu/Gerry Alanguilan and Ta-Nehisi Coates | NBS 3x Sulit Sale (Part II) | Lego Certified Store
September 2, 2020
The Preamble
On July 4, 2018, Marvel Comics dialled their Captain America issue count back to #1 as part of their “Fresh Start” initiative.* For the next six-issues, the star studded creative team: Alex Ross (Covers), Leinil Francis Yu (Interior Art), Gerry Alanguilan (Inker), and Ta-Nehisi Coates (Writer), would chart the course of the man known as Steve Rogers.
Comic Odyssey’s Captain America #1 Signing
July 8, 2018.
It is not every day that one can attend the launch of the first issue of Captain America.
It is even rarer to stage such an event with key members of the creative team in attendance.
Yet, Comic Odyssey made it all happen in the biggest way by bringing together Leinil and Gerry for this special signing event.

Captain America (Volume #9 | Issue #4 | Pages #10 and #11) by Leinil Francis Yu and Gerry Alanguilan
Page Summary: As Captain America descends deeper into an abandoned Alberia military base, the resistance he faces grows. This Captain America certainly isn’t pulling his punches.
Personally, I thought that Leinil and Sir Gerry outdid themselves with the sequential art on Pages 5, 7-11 (the late Gary Friedrich’s In Memoriam was featured on Page 6). It has such a great flow to it and sets the stage for Cap’s eventual confrontation with The Taskmaster.
In Pages 10 and 11, we see an aggressive Captain America not pulling any punches as he goes through goon after goon.
Footnotes
* The initiative would be Marvel’s 8th reboot after the release of the first Silver Age issue of Captain America back in April 1968. Despite starting at #100—Tales of Suspense was renamed to Captain America—the first volume of Captain America lasted until issue #454 (August 1996). Rob Liefeld and Jeff Loeb’s Captain America (Volume #2) launched three months later in November 1996.
NBS 3x Sulit Sale (The Powerbooks Edition)
September 2, 2020.
It completely slipped my mind that Powerbooks was also part of the NBS 3x Sulit Sale!
Today is the last day.
Drop by if you are in the area.
Lego Certified Store
Happened to also stop by my local Lego Certified Store—my first visit since the pandemic hit. To my surprise, the Lego Minifigures DC Super Heroes Series and Series 20 (Released last April 2020) were out on display. And yes, only scraps were left.
However, I did pick up a couple of packs which I plan on breaking open in a future YouTube Channel video.
The cat is out of the bag: Numbers (to the left of the Minifigures) denotes the quantity of each Minifigure in a single box.
